Waking up without a cup of joe should be a crime against humanity. Then again a hot shower and a cool morning breeze made things better. This is a great place to be. We did our own self guided tour and learned a lot about how Camp Christmount came into existence.

The Denominational Conference Center for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
Christmount sits on 600+ acres with over 90 private homes in their community. The camp manages the water, sewer, and electricity systems which provides steady income for the camp.

Mission Statement: “A place for everyone to discover community, acceptance, and purpose.” The camp manager, Reverend Rob Morris, is a West Texas native. He accepted the invitation to lead Christmount here in North Carolina about a decade ago. His innovative approach has inspired the development of the camp and its facilities. The camp has invested in the community by opening a new daycare center. There are several ongoing projects, including new cabins that are pre-built and ready for installation. Additionally, a sign indicates that a new lodge is also planned.

Rob informed us that the camp has become a new entertainment destination for a touring bus company. They’ve opened the doors of a venue that can accommodate up to three buses simultaneously. They serve a BBQ meal and bring in local entertainment. The buses arrive and depart on a scheduled night, spending approximately two hours in total before leaving. Rob mentioned that they perform a quick cleanup and benefit from the sales generated during these visits. It seems like a straightforward arrangement again sharing with the community.

Heather and I decided to return to the Black Mountains whenever we can, so we can spend more time there and share this spiritual place with our friends and family. We also want to witness Rev. Rob’s future developments and know that he will continue to inspire others through his faith and leadership.

On our exploration of the camp this morning we decided not to live on any mountainous terrain. The winding narrow roads were a bit too much. Especially when you don’t expect to come across a scene like this:

We ate a late lunch at a Mexican restaurant called Ole Guacamole. The food was delicious and too much on our plates. Heather rolled me out to the car where we proceeded to the town’s only laundromat.

We drove two hours today with our clean underwear in tow. Ended up at a Drury Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina after more long winding roads. This time we encountered endless bumper to bumper traffic. Yikes! That’s going to rattle anyone’s nerves. The hotel is comfortable and convenient, and we will enjoy a good breakfast in the morning. For dinner, we decided to go to Golden Corral. We both thoroughly enjoyed the selection and the cleanliness of this restaurant. It was one of the best buffet meals we have ever had. No pictures taken at the Golden Corral but I did pig out. Transitioning into our running into finding this diner in Kentucky. So sad it was closed…. Opportunity missed, could have pigged out here too!

“Th-th-th-that’s all, folks! See ya tomorrow!”
