Here is to our Great Adventure

Exciting Adventures Ahead!

Camp has finished, and the last week has been finalized. Now, we are off to explore the beauty of the USA and Canada!

Join us as we travel through this sabbatical adventure, sharing our experiences and memories along the way! Stay tuned for updates and photos from our explorations!

Michael and Heather Reed live in Amarillo. Well we own a house in Amarillo. Heather is a Community Regional minister for the CCSW and Mike travels with her to make sure she knows where she is going and takes care of her, because otherwise she would be lost. Heather has been serving this region since 2018, with Mike retiring in 2021, and is taking a sabbatical now after serving full time since 2021. They have been planning their adventures forever and are excited to relax, rejuvenate and recharge for the future with the Christian Church in the Southwest.

Did you know the fastest persons ever recorded are all toddlers when you ask them “What do you got in your mouth?” Testify…

Breakfast this morning was pretty good. We were all packed up and loaded and headed into Yellowstone for the last time this trip. The West Gate was really busy this morning. We had plenty of time and made several stops before exiting at the North Gate of the park. Lots of wildlife and we managed to get a few good pictures and videos.

As we were leaving the park we had a large harem with this massive bull. This was an amazing end to our time spent here at Yellowstone National Park.

We made it to Bozeman Montana and had lunch at the IHOP. We topped off the petrol in the car and returned the rental. We put 804 miles on the Nissan Rogue. It was a great car and excellent on gas mileage. When we went to check in our luggage we were told to report to the ticket agent. She informed us of our short transfer time and now our plane coming out of Las Vegas Nevada to Bozeman is delayed due to high winds. As we sat waiting Heather called Southwest Airlines to check on the flight status. Then she waited in a mile long line to be told we would miss our connecting flight to Birmingham Alabama. The only other flight into Birmingham for us would land there late tomorrow night and that was a maybe due to the impending weather. We opted with great sorrow to change our flights and head home.

Our first plane out is at 5:40 a.m. with a four hour layover in Las Vegas Nevada. We should land in Amarillo just before 3 p.m. Because we were displaced Southwest Airlines put us in a hotel for tonight and we arranged for the hotel’s shuttle to pick us up. We have to use an Uber in the morning to the airport cause the shuttle doesn’t start until 4:30 a.m.

Hurricane Isaias is an unexpected event that will impact millions of people. We pray for all to be safe and sound as our families gather together for The Fab Five Reunion in Alabama. Heather and I planned to end our epic adventure surrounded by many people we know and love. Our hearts are with all of you!

I’ve experienced numerous hurricanes, but two of the most devastating were Ike in 2009, which hit as a Category 2, and Harvey in 2017, which made landfall as a Category 4. Both storms had their eye walls pass directly over me. Any hurricane should not to be underestimated; the aftermath, including flooding and power outages, represents just a fraction of the potential of damages.

Trumpeter Swans Takeoff
Trumpeter Swans Landing

These two Trumpeter Swans were absolutely incredible to watch. When they took off they dragged their feet across the water like water skiing! (I was too slow on pushing record) It was something special to see them in unison from takeoff to this video of them landing together. There were many more of them in the grassy area hiding.

What an awesome experience we have had. We hope you have enjoyed the highlights of our journey. It’s time for Pizza Hut and an early good night. 💤
