Here is to our Great Adventure

Exciting Adventures Ahead!

Camp has finished, and the last week has been finalized. Now, we are off to explore the beauty of the USA and Canada!

Join us as we travel through this sabbatical adventure, sharing our experiences and memories along the way! Stay tuned for updates and photos from our explorations!

Michael and Heather Reed live in Amarillo. Well we own a house in Amarillo. Heather is a Community Regional minister for the CCSW and Mike travels with her to make sure she knows where she is going and takes care of her, because otherwise she would be lost. Heather has been serving this region since 2018, with Mike retiring in 2021, and is taking a sabbatical now after serving full time since 2021. They have been planning their adventures forever and are excited to relax, rejuvenate and recharge for the future with the Christian Church in the Southwest.

Ta da! It’s Hummp Dayyy! Our last full day here in this majestic place. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee hot. We were out the parking lot and in the West Park Gate by 9:00 a.m.

Today’s goal is to drive the entire lower Grand Loop Road which is 96 miles long and takes about 5 hours to complete without stopping. We took 9 hours with stops. The top loop is 40 miles and Lamar Valley another 20. Some of the scenic trails were already closed but I think we made all the ones that were open.

It was another cold morning. We hiked after our first mountain drive. Our legs were sore but after a while they loosened up. Our altitude vastly changed throughout the day. We visited the Hayden Valley and it was full of bison 🦬, birds 🦅, ducks 🦆, Canada Geese. The thermal features were everywhere. Heather’s favorite was the Dragons Breath. I like the Mud Volcano.🌋 Most buildings and shops were closed around the lake. The big hotels were closed. Snow is expected here on Monday.

There was a talented Ranger Camden at Artists Point answering questions and handing out Junior Ranger badges all while painting. Very impressive!

Lunch time with a view. We had a private dining car with impeccable service. For the lady, peanut butter and crackers along with a Dr. Pepper and a side of Cheetos. For the Mr. He had the spam sandwich on wheat, a Coke Zero with a side of Cheetos. The conversation was great. Discussions of afternoon and possible dinner plans, and setting a reminder to check into our flights for tomorrow.

Another visit to Old Faithful! Scheduled/expected time was at 3:33 p.m. and right on schedule she was!

Mountain Goats and Montana Mountain Elks! What a great day. I wouldn’t be hanging out way up on a mountain side but lounging out on my own private island, yessiree!

We had a short drive after leaving Yellowstone to the Idaho State Line. Heather’s request to check off another state so away we drove. We drove from Wyoming, to Montana, to Idaho and back to Montana in the span of about 30 mins. And no we weren’t speeding or flying. Our dinner plan was in the town of West End and the place was Pete’s Mountain Pizza and Pasta. The food was different. Heather had spaghetti with marinara sauce and I opted for the lasagna. Too much oregano and garlic. Iced tea was good.

Back at the ranch, I mean hotel, the Mrs. did our laundry. Nothing like having clean underwear for the traveling. Like the sayin’ goes “Laundry today or naked tomorrow!”

Canada Goose on the Loose

I wore one of my Canada t-shirts today. From breakfast to dinner, I was asked if we were from Canada? It seems all of Yellowstones Visitors Loves Canada! Most people seemed disappointed when we answered “Nope, we’re from Texas.” I talked to a retired gentleman from Wisconsin who drove across Canada last year as it was also a to do on his bucket list.

Have you got Bills to pay? If you do please give it back. He looks ridiculous without it! Just sayin’…
