Here is to our Great Adventure

Exciting Adventures Ahead!

Camp has finished, and the last week has been finalized. Now, we are off to explore the beauty of the USA and Canada!

Join us as we travel through this sabbatical adventure, sharing our experiences and memories along the way! Stay tuned for updates and photos from our explorations!

Michael and Heather Reed live in Amarillo. Well we own a house in Amarillo. Heather is a Community Regional minister for the CCSW and Mike travels with her to make sure she knows where she is going and takes care of her, because otherwise she would be lost. Heather has been serving this region since 2018, with Mike retiring in 2021, and is taking a sabbatical now after serving full time since 2021. They have been planning their adventures forever and are excited to relax, rejuvenate and recharge for the future with the Christian Church in the Southwest.

Today is our last day in San Francisco. We miss our pillows, the recliners of our couch, and of course, family. We will miss the noise of emergency vehicles and the constant traffic, but not the great food and views of eclectic architecture. Okay, that’s reversed. Our luggage is going to strain the airlines’ fuel budget, but it’s just underweight. Awww, more stuff to fill our house. That’s why your first house is called a starter home; that’s when you start getting more stuff and need a bigger house. We are mid-downsizing, so we buy stuff, give it away, so others need bigger homes. Sorry, Scotty and Misty, Rhyder needs more stuff, and it’s on the way.

We have been busy moving doctor’s appointments for tomorrow so we can sleep in a little bit since our plane lands around midnight. This will be our red-eyed flight. Our hotel gave us a late checkout. We arranged transportation by Lyft (WAYMO doesn’t go to the airport ‘Rattts’ we tried!!!) that will pick us up at noon California time. So long, WAYMO.

Adios!

Our Lyft driver was exceptional. He treated our metric ton of luggage with ease and drove us to the airport without any problems. We thanked him for his efforts and onward forged the two Texans into a quiet airport. Nice not being overwhelmed audibly with constant announcements. The TSA people gave me the full treatment as Heather giggled non-discriminately as I was sent through the screening machine 3 times before passing. Then I was selected for a random full-body scan and finally a pat-down. Next, my bag required a search because of my Mounjaro shots. Laughing and smiling, Heather enjoyed it way too much. I was fortunate enough though to avoid the alien probing.

We had $50 dollars worth of food at the airport from a place called the Melt. Was better here than in town maybe it was the price driving the quality. Was delicious!

Well, just as everything seemed smooth, American Airlines put the screws on our flight plans five minutes before boarding. It seems some Yahoo had preferential credentials, and the airline bumped Heather from the front seat in first class to regular economy. They downgraded her seat and were going to give her a few dollars for her seat. The attendant we spoke to at first was very patronizing and unprofessional. We spoke after the plane was mainly loaded to a supervisor, and he was polite but offered little explanation of the reasons why she was bumped and why such short notice. Not happy with this airline and the lack of communication. We were able to get Heather in the first class cabin a few seats back after the airline paid another first class passenger $300 to downgrade. Still not the same as what we had scheduled. We will not use American Airlines ever again! You pay a premium for comfort and pick your seat, and some privileged individual takes it away from you five minutes before you board and the airline allows this injustice. Already writing our complaint seeking compensation for aggravation and reasonable notification. We know this will go nowhere. This occurs when a person or business fails to give fair, timely warning before taking an action that affects another party’s legal rights or expectations of accommodations.

We have landed in Dallas at DFW with a leisurely walk about from C to D terminals. Still in disbelief as to American Airlines actions. Heather is searching the airport 7-Eleven for some grub. She had ordered a cheese plate for our flight here and the guy got to eat her food. On the other side she couldn’t eat the meal cause it had mushrooms and olives.

Going to end today’s for now. Hopefully arriving in Amarillo about midnight.
