Here is to our Great Adventure

Exciting Adventures Ahead!

Camp has finished, and the last week has been finalized. Now, we are off to explore the beauty of the USA and Canada!

Join us as we travel through this sabbatical adventure, sharing our experiences and memories along the way! Stay tuned for updates and photos from our explorations!

Michael and Heather Reed live in Amarillo. Well we own a house in Amarillo. Heather is a Community Regional minister for the CCSW and Mike travels with her to make sure she knows where she is going and takes care of her, because otherwise she would be lost. Heather has been serving this region since 2018, with Mike retiring in 2021, and is taking a sabbatical now after serving full time since 2021. They have been planning their adventures forever and are excited to relax, rejuvenate and recharge for the future with the Christian Church in the Southwest.

Last night, Heather and I tossed and turned, up and down, sleep evaded us at every turn. Somehow, we managed to get up and finish our necessary packing before heading to the airport to pick up our rental car. They gave us a Hyundai Santa Fe. We started our trip with 20,434 miles on the odometer.

Heather backed the SUV into our driveway, and the loading began. Plenty of room for our stuff. I grabbed a couple of portable window shades since rentals have very little tinting. We said our goodbyes about 11 a.m. to Astro, our bed, and our recliners. Heather drove us to Iowa Park before letting me drive. We both got naps in, albeit in not-so-comfortable seats. We are just spoiled by the comfort of our Nissans.

Our first stop is in Thackerville, Oklahoma, at the WinStar. We have two free nights and discounted meals. We plan on taking our physiques and testing the waters in the Cascades. It is a beautiful and quite large collection of pools. They have cabanas and lounge chairs and a secluded 21+ pool. The backstroke babies! We are going early tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s hot here, like 102 every day.

We had a good dinner at Toby Keith’s I love this bar restaurant. Great dinner specials and way too much food. We walked around before grabbing some free coffee and headed for our room. We hope sleep is better tonight. We do love the rooms and beds here, especially the Pool Tower. The view from the 17th floor is amazing. More to come after the fun in the sun tomorrow and a relaxing day by the pool while using 100 proof sun block on my head. I don’t want to make the lobsters jealous.
