Here is to our Great Adventure

Exciting Adventures Ahead!

Camp has finished, and the last week has been finalized. Now, we are off to explore the beauty of the USA and Canada!

Join us as we travel through this sabbatical adventure, sharing our experiences and memories along the way! Stay tuned for updates and photos from our explorations!

Michael and Heather Reed live in Amarillo. Well we own a house in Amarillo. Heather is a Community Regional minister for the CCSW and Mike travels with her to make sure she knows where she is going and takes care of her, because otherwise she would be lost. Heather has been serving this region since 2018, with Mike retiring in 2021, and is taking a sabbatical now after serving full time since 2021. They have been planning their adventures forever and are excited to relax, rejuvenate and recharge for the future with the Christian Church in the Southwest.

Breakfast of champions, pancakes for all. Heather had peanut butter with hers, and I had blueberries with sugar-free syrup. We dined at the Terrace Cafe with a great view. After coffee, we wandered back to our room to change into our swimming gear. Nope, no snorkeling gear allowed. We did, however, pack the sunscreen.

The Cascades is a group of pools that are by paid entry and have full waitstaff and various degrees of amenities, including an all-adult section in case you need a break from any rug rats. We got the VIP package that included 2 bottles of water. Yep! Highfalutin we are! The sunscreen worked well on everything we used it on. So sad after the fact I noticed my missed elbows and the tip of my nose. I think Heather got a good coating; she’s not complaining about any crispy parts.

The water and lounge chairs were so relaxing. Heather spotted a beached whale and managed to get a photo or two.

All this relaxation took a toll on us, so we took a break under the air conditioning in our room. Heather read her book, and I chilled with the remote control. Dinner came early as we again skipped a meal and used our discounts for super cheap buffet meals. The poor shrimps never stood a chance. Three different types of shrimps. Bubba Gump would have been proud! Broke, but proud.

We are winding down tonight, looking forward to our next two stops tomorrow. We have lunch plans in Durant, Oklahoma, and dinner at the Seven Ponies in Pocola, Oklahoma.

We’ll leave you with a thought to ponder this evening. If you can place the sole of your foot directly on your ear and listen intently, you might just hear your hip dislocating. Just saying!
