Here is to our Great Adventure

Exciting Adventures Ahead!

Camp has finished, and the last week has been finalized. Now, we are off to explore the beauty of the USA and Canada!

Join us as we travel through this sabbatical adventure, sharing our experiences and memories along the way! Stay tuned for updates and photos from our explorations!

Michael and Heather Reed live in Amarillo. Well we own a house in Amarillo. Heather is a Community Regional minister for the CCSW and Mike travels with her to make sure she knows where she is going and takes care of her, because otherwise she would be lost. Heather has been serving this region since 2018, with Mike retiring in 2021, and is taking a sabbatical now after serving full time since 2021. They have been planning their adventures forever and are excited to relax, rejuvenate and recharge for the future with the Christian Church in the Southwest.

So early, we woke up at 6 a.m. and I peeked out of curtains thinking I would see us docked but we were still moving. Heather and I waited with anticipation for a breakfast that would never come. It seems we didn’t put our request outside on our door handle last night. Duh! We went downstairs to get a snack before heading to the theater for our excursion disembarkation.

There we sat for a moment and off we went. Walking, walking, swipe medallions, walking, walking, and a little more walking. Hey, bus ride! Our driver has 35 years experience of driving a bus and it showed. She navigated the streets of Portland, Maine like a champ. Thanks Nancy for your skillful service. She said that in Portland before a couple could get married they were required to spend one night in the Lighthouse. That way they had no excuse not to know light house keeping. Her accomplice was the impeccable Jerry. He told us tons of stories, facts, and fiction about growing up in Portland. First stop was the Lighthouse.

After a quick stop we road through the city of Portland viewing landmarks, historical buildings and houses. Jerry described the changes of the seasons and how the colors brings more people to the area. We were able to see the start of the colors.

We finished our excursion early so Heather and I decided to walk around the port area. Glad we did. Picked up some cool souvenirs. We ran into our new friends Larry and Ron and he introduced us to some of his family. They were excited to see us cause his cousin knew us as Larry’s Terminal friends! Lol

We waited in line for a tasty potato donut 🍩 from the Holy Donut. More walking and we jumped into another line. This time was for my bucket list lunch. Nope 👎 not crab. We ate at The Lobster Company. They had a long line but took our order fast. I had the lobster roll with fries and a cup of clam chowder! Maine is famous for its Whoopi pies and we got one to go. Yum 😋 Heather refused to carry me back to the ship. Believe that…I told her she could just roll my carcass and she still held firm. Finally, I suggested she play Kick the Can and she was all in. Okay I am just kidding. We walked, and walked, and walked. We took a break on a bench until this guy lit his cigarette and decided to smoke us like a thanksgiving turkey. We got up and walked, and walked some more. Hey we made it. “Let the probing begin!” shouted Heather. Washy, washy, and back on the ship we were.

Napping time…then dressed for formal night and pictures around the ship. Had an amazing dinner. We didn’t eat at the Captain’s Table but we were one table over. The Lobster Bisque and the Filet Mignon out of this world. We skipped dessert just too much food. We ran into our Terminal Friends again and this time we all took a picture together. Would post but it hasn’t downloaded yet.

In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
