Heather has requested that I make it perfectly clear that “She did not try to feed me to the Bears, Moose, and especially the Coyotes!” “Nor did she push, shove, or impede me at any point of our time together in the wilderness!” “I am making all these statements under no duress and of my own free will.” She did however mention that she will beat me at “Five Crowns” the next time we play.

Now thats out of the way, with the car packed up with all of our luggage we’re ready for the road. We have a gauntlet of stops to enjoy for this is a planned short drive day. Check in at our next hotel isn’t until 4 p.m. Hopefully with all of our plans it will be closer to that time.

First stop was getting breakfast 45 minutes away. Coffee and Timbits! We filled the car up with some petrol and are on our way to Lundbreck Falls. Lots of beautiful fall colors everywhere.

Next stop Leitch Collieries. A coal mining operation that only lasted 8 years due to WWI and other factors. First fully Canadian owned mining operation.

Next quick stop was at Alberta Canada’s oldest tree. Well it’s dead. Been dead for a while now. They just wanted to keep it around as a reminder of the longest living tree, so the government helped the local community in securing it in the ground and made it a landmark. Really? Really! Hum… really. We can’t even keep our memorials alive and not defaced.

A little ways down the road is a mining town of Crowsnest Pass. In 1903 was one of the most devastating natural disasters in Canadian history named the Frank Slide. An estimated 110 million tonnes (30 million cubic metres) of limestone broke off the peak of Turtle Mountain and cascaded across the valley in the early morning hours, killing around 90 people. Very sad!

Continuing down the road our next stop in search of the World’s Largest Off Road Truck.

Sorry we got so distracted by all the beautiful colors and striking views. And now the truck. Yeah it’s big but I bet ya somewhere in the Dallas Area there’s one bigger… yeppers… just sayin’!

We made it to British Columbia Canada and are now in Fernie. It’s a big ski resort town and lots of summer rafting opportunities as well. We ate a late lunch at Smitty’s and drove over to our hotel. We made it this whole time without any Canadian currency and had to break down and get some loonies for our laundry today. I guess one might say that we now have some crazy clean underwear! Or not.

We are organizing another box to be shipped home. Trying to lighten up our suitcases for planes, trains, and automobiles. Ohh the Tariffs and Customs Paperwork. We now know how the process works. Open wallet and sign over your first born.
