Here is to our Great Adventure

Exciting Adventures Ahead!

Camp has finished, and the last week has been finalized. Now, we are off to explore the beauty of the USA and Canada!

Join us as we travel through this sabbatical adventure, sharing our experiences and memories along the way! Stay tuned for updates and photos from our explorations!

Michael and Heather Reed live in Amarillo. Well we own a house in Amarillo. Heather is a Community Regional minister for the CCSW and Mike travels with her to make sure she knows where she is going and takes care of her, because otherwise she would be lost. Heather has been serving this region since 2018, with Mike retiring in 2021, and is taking a sabbatical now after serving full time since 2021. They have been planning their adventures forever and are excited to relax, rejuvenate and recharge for the future with the Christian Church in the Southwest.

Ta da! The rain poured down relentlessly, so we bundled up in our rain gear and loaded up the car. We drove a mile up the road and stopped at the Cracked Egg, a place we’ve heard great things about. However, we were in for a surprise.

Heather ordered a sausage patty, scrambled eggs (the only way they prepared them, which was a bit odd), hash browns, and a piece of toast. The sausage was absolutely disgusting! I could smell it across the table. It looked like a hamburger patty but was made of yak meat, we think.

On the other hand, I opted for a combo burrito. It came in a wheat wrap filled with brisket, shaved ham, cheese, hash browns, and “ketchup” (which was the strangest burrito I’ve ever had). The iced coffee we got there was delicious, though.

If you can drive in Downtown Boston, you can drive anywhere. However, all my driving to get here has not prepared me for the abuse, mental illness, and degenerative symptoms we endured today. Imagine cramming a million people into a fishbowl, then removing all the rules of using a crosswalk or proper driving etiquette. Now put some Beats headphones on half of the people, throw in some rain, and play the theme to the video game Frogger, Good luck! We managed to find a parking garage we had pre-booked, and I think my heart stopped several times this morning. Ohh the crazy driving and near misses. To our Cousins Rich and Corina, these people make drivers in San Francisco look good.

We had a fantastic day. As we were purchasing Heather’s National Park Stickers, we encountered a gentleman working in the gift shop. He revealed that he used to reside in Amarillo and was a cellist in the Amarillo Symphony. He moved to Boston to play in the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He inquired if Western Plaza was still in existence. We provided him with some updates on its current state. He was incredibly friendly and thrilled to learn that we drove from Amarillo to Boston, just like he did. He recalled that the distance was approximately 2,000 miles. We shared our own journey, which involved driving over 4,000 miles. We almost missed our trolley ride due to our conversation. I told him it was an honor to meet a musician of his caliber and told him how we just attended a Kenny G concert in New York. We told him that Kenny G attributed his career to his high school music teacher and the music programs in public schools.

We hurried to our pickup station and met a family. Grandad who owns a Mazda Dealership in Seattle Washington. He had his son and two grandsons (who live in Spokane) with him celebrating his 63 birthday by attending tonight’s Seattle Mariners vs Boston Red Sox game. We told them we were going to Fenway Park tomorrow. I said if you run into any Reeds in Spokane they are probably related to me. He laughed when I told him we were a Nissan family.

We made it to the Walgreens and got all of my medications and left in rush hour traffic. Bumper to bumper nightmare. White knuckles all the way with the exception of the last mile. By then I was in the groove. Just like Richard Petty in his prime. I became a part of the car. lol 🤪 Dinner was at the Cheesecake Factory and our meals were delicious. Of course cheesecake to go. We snacked a little but was still full from dinner. Yum!

We’re going to Harvard and Cambridge in the morning. Then a tour of Fenway Park before the game. I’m excited to scratch more off my bucket list!

I told Heather that I could drive a race car made of spaghetti. You should have seen her face when I drove pasta! I know you love the dad jokes so leave us a like or a comment.
